My baby started kindergarten a couple of weeks ago, but the first two weeks are “phase-in” weeks. They only go one day each week. We weren’t sure until the end of the 1st week what day he’d be going back the 2nd week. It turned out that he went last Monday, which meant we had a whole week with nothing planned…..what to do?!
Monday night, we had the wild idea to see if we could find a last minute deal on a condo at the beach and head down for a long weekend. Luck was on our side, and we got a condo at our favorite place to stay. It turned out to be our favorite condo that we’ve stayed in there.
I worked 1/2 of the day on Wednesday, and then Pook & the kids picked me up at work. We told the kiddos on Tuesday that we had a surprise if they were good, but didn’t tell them what until we were on the road. I think the fact that it was so last minute made it all the more exciting. This was also the first vacation that our family of 4 has been on all.by.ourselves. We always go with my mom, pook’s parents, friends, etc. We tried to coerse some folks into coming with us this time, but due to the timing it just didn’t work out. To be honest, I was little concerned about how we’d fare alone, but it was fine. The kids are finally at an age where I can sit down and watch them play. They have a reasonable fear of things unknown, but not so much that I have to hold their hand every minute. We were also a little worried about what the beach would hold, but it was fine. We didn’t see any oil or tarballs. The waves were really rough thanks to the storms out in the gulf, but the boys still enjoyed playing in the shallow water.
The view from our condo…yes, the beach was VERY empty!
I attempted photos of the kids one night. I’d hoped to do family ones, but Pook decided he needed a nap as we headed out on the beach so no go this time.
These were our very first day there. The skies out over the water were pretty ominous, but it stayed sunny on the beach. It gave an awesome look to the photos, I think.
I’ll admit it..I’m obsessed with my baby’s bottom :-)! I seriously cannot get enough of it in real life or in pictures…especially now that it’s diaper free!!! woo hoo!! I am really thinking of blowing this up for the wall. It is one of my absolute favorites!! I’m linking it up over at Darcy’s for Sweet Shot Tuesday too!
More photos to come from our whirlwind getaway! I haven’t had time to get around to many of them yet. For real, every day school started yesterday (the morning after we got home) and to say I’m struggling is an understatement!! I may dread school more as a parent than I ever did when I was the one actually attending!
Wow, great shots all of them but the one of your little girl is seriously stunning.
